Khan Academy Launches Teacher Training Initiative

Khan Academy has partnered with iteach to provide an AI-powered teacher training tool, aiming to help educators better understand how to implement AI in education practices. The new tool, called Khanmigo, will be available to all teachers in iteach’s certification program. iteach currently works with 1,550 districts and Local Education Agencies in the US.

The technology is still in its beta phase and has received backing from Microsoft, which is supporting Khanmigo with its Azure OpenAI Service. This partnership is expected to benefit new teachers, helping them enter the classroom with confidence and ready to educate students on the ethical use of AI.

Andrew Rozell, president of iteach, said: “Through iteach’s partnership with Khan Academy, new teachers will enter the classroom with confidence, ready to educate students on the ethical use of AI and take advantage of this powerful technology to ease their own workloads, which are often overwhelming.” Khan Academy expects Khanmigo to ease the workload of teachers and help them teach students what AI is and how to safely use it.

According to a survey, around 72% of students say they would like more help on learning how to use AI-powered tools. All preservice teachers with iteach will have access to Khanmigo throughout their certification process. The software also includes a “refresh my knowledge” section available to certified teachers who want to brush up on their skills.

AI use has already begun to grow in popularity in classrooms, with around one-third of K-12 teachers saying that they have used the technology. This growth is expected to continue, with Khanmigo playing a key role in helping teachers implement AI in their education practices. Kristen DiCerbo, chief learning officer at Khan Academy, said: “Through this partnership, Khanmigo will equip aspiring iteach educators with their own personal teaching assistant.

When they enter the classroom as credentialed teachers, they’ll be able to put AI to use to streamline prep and focus on spending quality time with students.” The partnership between Khan Academy and iteach is a significant step forward in the use of AI in education, and is likely to have a positive impact on the way teachers approach their work.

Khanmigo will be made available to all teachers in iteach’s certification program, and will help them better understand how to implement AI into education practices, including in lesson planning, building curriculum and personal career development. The software is designed to be user-friendly, and will provide teachers with the support they need to effectively use AI in their classrooms.

iteach is the only non-university alternative teacher certification program that has earned accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. This accreditation indicates the program’s high quality, and the partnership with Khan Academy is expected to further enhance the program’s reputation, making it a leader in technology education innovation.

The use of AI in education is a rapidly evolving field, and the partnership between Khan Academy and iteach is just one example of how technology is being used to improve teaching practices. As the use of AI continues to grow, it is likely that we will see more innovative solutions like Khanmigo being developed to support teachers and students.

Teachers will have access to ongoing support and training, helping them stay up-to-date with the latest developments in AI technology.
