Cambridge Checkpoint helps students at Chennai Public School Global prepare for IGCSE, with five years of results showing stronger analytical performance.

Cambridge Checkpoint assessments have been offered by Chennai Public School Global (CPS Global) Annanagar for the past five years, playing a significant role in preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE and predicting readiness.

According to the Head Of School, Rama Mylavarapu, students who perform well in Cambridge Checkpoint assessments are generally better prepared for the analytical and application-based demands of the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum.

Rama Mylavarapu says: “The detailed performance reports help identify student aptitude, subject strengths, and learning gaps at an early stage, enabling informed subject choices and timely interventions before entering Cambridge IGCSE.”

Sushama Rajkumar from City Montessori Schools, Lucknow agrees that Cambridge Checkpoint assessments engage higher-order thinking and offer an early picture of how learners are developing the skills that Cambridge IGCSE will demand.

A study by Tim Gill found that schools adopting Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint had a small but significant improvement in their average Cambridge IGCSE grade, compared to schools that do not adopt Checkpoint.

The correlation between Cambridge Checkpoint scores and Cambridge IGCSE grades has been proven by Cambridge’s research, with Checkpoint scores being a good predictor of performance in Cambridge IGCSEs, particularly in the same or a related subject.

Cambridge Checkpoint also impacts how students experience assessment and reduces test anxiety for the future, says Sushama Rajkumar. “When examinations are positioned as checkpoints rather than high-stakes judgements, something shifts. Students engage with greater calm and greater honesty,”

According to Rama Mylavarapu, the assessments support student wellbeing by reducing the pressure associated with high-stakes examinations and helping students build confidence, self-awareness, and exam readiness in a supportive environment.

Sushama Rajkumar explains that Cambridge Checkpoint tests do not define students, but help understand them and help them understand themselves, building confidence and skills for the journey forward.
