UK universities attract Cambridge International students - cambridge international
The numbers of applicants and offers have been increasing every year since the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

Global students must weigh their higher education options carefully amid escalating tuition fees, stricter visa regulations, and shifting labor market demands. Yet those with Cambridge International A Level credentials enjoy extensive opportunities both domestically and abroad. The UK remains the top choice for these students, according to recent admissions trends, offering them particularly favorable prospects for university entry.

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) data reveals that around 12% of all international undergraduate students placed at a UK university last year had one or more Cambridge International A Level qualification. This data also highlights that students are being increasingly selective about where they apply to university and what they study, with employability outcomes being a key factor in decision-making.

Insights from UCAS Application Data

Cambridge students have a greater chance of receiving an offer of a place at a UK university than ever before. The data shows that 98% of Cambridge students who applied to UK universities in the 2025 cycle received an offer of a place. The numbers of applicants and offers have been increasing every year since the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

The entry year data reveals a strong recovery in the number of applicants and offers. In 2023, there were 19,695 unique applicants, which increased to 20,455 in 2024 and 21,720 in 2025. The number of offers also increased from 18,905 in 2023 to 19,785 in 2024 and 21,285 in 2025.

Popular Universities and Courses

Cambridge students are ambitious with their university choices, and there was unprecedented growth in the number of students who gained places at top-ranked universities. The most popular universities with Cambridge students were UCL, University of Manchester, The University of Edinburgh, King’s College London, and University of Bristol.

The top 10 university courses chosen by Cambridge applicants in 2025 were Business & Management, Engineering, Computing, Economics, Mathematical sciences, Law, Creative arts and design, Biosciences, Geography, earth and environmental studies, and Psychology. Students can choose from 55 subjects at Cambridge International AS & A Levels, which opens up diverse pathways at university.

Shifts in Study Destinations

The country data reveals shifts in study destinations, with the number of applications to UK universities from Cambridge International A Level students in China and India increasing significantly. However, applications from Malaysia dropped by 20%. The data reflects how shifts in visa policies are impacting student choices. The global increase in high-quality, English-taught undergraduate programmes is creating new opportunities for students outside of the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. Cambridge students can find advice on applying to universities in over 20 popular destinations, including the UK, on the Cambridge website. They can also search the Recognition and Credit Policy database to find out where Cambridge qualifications are accepted and view admissions requirements.
